Thousands of visitors from all walks of life last week thronged the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) stand in the Buganda King’s palace, Lubiri Mengo in Kampala to learn about the unique eco- tourism products offered by the conservation agency in the different Uganda national parks.
This was during the fifth Buganda Tourism Expo organized by the Buganda Ministry of Tourism held under the theme “Celebrating our cultural Diversity”. Besides showcasing her products, Uganda Wildlife Authority financially supported the kingdom to organize the annual event which attracts both local and international communities.
During the expo during which live totems representing diverse cultures were displayed, UWA disseminated a wide range of conservation education materials, literature about the nature based tourism, guidebooks to various national parks and game reserves among others.
The expo was graced by high ranking government, cultural and religious leaders including the Vice President Mr. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi,Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga the head of the Roman Catholic faith in Uganda and Buganda king ,Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi who officially closed the expo on July 1,2012.
The Vice President challenged Ugandans to engage in tourism as an economic activity which will improve the community livelihood, adding that the central government attaches a lot of importance to tourism as an engine of economic growth.
The deputy minister for Tourism in the Buganda government Mrs. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi hailed Uganda Wildlife Authority for the unwavering support towards promotion of tourism in the region.
