Museveni Draws Crowds in Bunyoro as Opposition Reports Campaign Clashes

This Thursday, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni held campaign rallies in Uganda’s Bunyoro sub-region, visiting Buliisa and Hoima. During his tour, he highlighted major development projects in the area, including road construction, a stadium, and ongoing oil projects in the Albertine Graben. Local leaders expressed gratitude to the President, thanking him for efforts in poverty reduction and development.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders from the National Unity Platform (NUP) conducted campaign activities in nearby Bundibugyo and Ntoroko. They shared images alleging that UPDF soldiers had whipped their supporters along the roadsides. NUP leaders urged voters to consider a change in the January 2026 elections, contrasting their vision of change with President Museveni’s message of continuity.

Speaking out on the oil issue, NUP spokesperson and Member of Parliament for Nakawa West, Joel Ssenyonyi, emphasized that Uganda’s resources belong to the people, not the President. “The majita (oil) belongs to Uganda, not to you, Sir!” Ssenyonyi said, highlighting the party’s focus on equitable management of national resources.

These parallel campaign events show the stark contrast between the ruling party’s promises of ongoing development and the opposition’s push for change. As Uganda approaches the January 2026 elections, voters are being presented with two very different visions for the future.
