On the 8th October 1962 this was Buganda Independence, On behalf of the people of Buganda, Katikkiro (PM) Michael G Kintu signed instruments of independence at Bulange Mengo, at the headquarters of the Kingdom .
Witnesses who were present:
1. Governor General Uganda protectorate Sir. Walter Coutts;
2. Buganda AG Fred Mpanga,
3. Her Majesty’s representative His Royal Highnesses, Prince Edward the Duke of Kent,
4. The Kabaka of Buganda Sir Edward Mutesa II, and
5. Chief Justice of Uganda Protectorate.
