Lydia Oile is a business lady, who has been in business for over 20 years. She is the C.E.O of Le Mémorial Medical Services. She is both a mother and grandmother.
Briefly tell us about yourself?
My childhood was good and I grew up in a humble family. My dad was a Reverend and my mom was a teacher. I can’t say I grew in a rich family all I can say is that it was an average family. I grew up in Rukungiri. We were ten children.
I didn’t go to school that much – I was an adventurous person. During my senior four vacation, I escorted a friend who was joining a medical school. While there, I moved and saw a room where they were interviewing people from.
They wanted boys who had finished A’ Level but I went and talked to one of the ladies that I wanted to do the interview. She picked interest and I was admitted to train as an anesthetist. I did the three year course at Mulago Paramedical School.
But I am more into business now.

What do you love and hate most about Uganda?
I love my country Uganda the way it is
If you were to meet God, what would you ask him?
To make any person next to me have what they want to live a better life – to make us all equal.
What do men not know about women?
We are equal human beings – no one is superior
Where do you want to be in 5 years?
I want to be among the giants winning big tenders
Who is the biggest influence in your life and why?
My mother who raised the ten of us in her humble village home and provided us with everything we wanted. She cared for us.

To work hard all the time

I am getting attached to patients – when we are doing everything and we are losing someone, I get broken
