Hoima City Stadium Shines as Museveni Concludes Rally

Hoima City is celebrating a major milestone with the completion of the new Hoima City Stadium, a modern sports center that is already drawing national attention. During President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s recent rally at Booma Grounds, many people could not help noticing the impressive structure rising nearby. Even the official NRM Twitter account shared photos with the caption “Marvelous Gain!”—and for many residents, the description is true.

World-Class Facility for Uganda

The stadium was built by the Turkish construction company Summa, the same firm working on several large projects in the region. The project cost about $130 million and sits on 42 acres of land in Hoima City. Work was completed in October 2025, using funds generated from Uganda’s oil sector.

One of the stadium’s biggest achievements is earning a top FIFA rating, meaning it meets international standards for major football tournaments. This is especially important as Uganda prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). With its modern features, Hoima City Stadium is expected to play a key role in the tournament.

Modern Features and Facilities

Hoima City Stadium is more than just a football pitch. It is a complete sports complex designed to support different athletic activities and attract local, national, and international events. Key features include:

A 20,000-seat main stadium with comfortable seating

Hybrid grass pitch suitable for high-level football

A standard athletics track for running events

Powerful floodlights that allow night games

A 2,000-seat indoor arena for sports like basketball and netball

A semi-Olympic swimming pool

Training pitches for teams and athletes

Outdoor courts for basketball, netball, and volleyball

These facilities make Hoima Stadium one of the most advanced sports centers in East Africa.

Big Benefits for Hoima City

Residents of Hoima have welcomed the stadium with excitement. Many say it has already brought positive change to the oil-rich city. During construction, the project created many jobs for locals. Businesses in the area—such as restaurants, hotels, and shops—report more customers and increased income.

With the stadium now complete, Hoima expects even more benefits. Large events like concerts, sports tournaments, and cultural shows will attract visitors from across Uganda and beyond. This means more tourism, more business, and more opportunities for local youth.

New Landmark for Uganda

The government is expected to officially open the stadium soon, and preparations are underway for a grand ceremony. For many Ugandans, Hoima City Stadium represents progress, modern development, and hope for a stronger sports industry.

President Museveni concluded his rally, the shining structure stood proudly in the background—symbolizing how far the region has come and the promise it holds for the future.
