A court has jailed a former Senator
Gwendo had earlier on pleaded guilty to abuse of office charges after a plea bargaining agreement with DPP Noordin Haji.
The court ordered that she be jailed without the option of a fine because of misguiding the court.
She was also denied the right of appeal with the court saying it had considered the mitigation.
The former lawmaker had agreed to pay the Kisumu East Cotton Growers Cooperative Sacco Ksh1.7 million, the amount of money she is said to have stolen.
She had also pleaded guilty to three of five counts of theft and issuing of bad cheques.
Gwendo was accused of forging a Ksh200,000 cheque. Additionally, she was also charged with issuing two cheques of Ksh300,000 and Ksh950,000 that were forged.
An abuse of office charge also stated that she used her position as a state official to confer a benefit of Ksh2 million.
Gwendo, who was nominated by TNA in 2013, was arrested early this year by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s officers before being arraigned in court.
