At least 11 people have died and scores missing after River Suume in Bududa, eastern Uganda, burst its banks due to heavy rains causing landslides.

Uganda Red Cross Society says the situation in the area is tense and people are scared as they flee their homes for safety.

The death toll is expected to increase as authorities send an assessment and rescue team to the area.

In September, Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) forecasted heavy rainfall across the country until December.
