Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has said that he is out of the country, hours after the Senate through its Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) gave Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai a 14-day ultimatum to arrest him.
In a series of Tweets, the County Boss noted that the Committee was fully aware that he was out of the Country, but they did not bother to inform him that he was supposed to show up for grilling.
“I am currently out of the country and SURPRISED that even after informing the Senate PAIC committee of the same awhile back, they have again SECRETLY met without NOTICE to me or my Govt & continued to perpetuate an AGENDA to show me in bad light even though THEY KNOW I am away. I have SEVERALLY INFORMED the Senate PAIC committee that I have ALWAYS been ready and willing to appear before them and do NOT need to be compelled to PERFORM my civic duties as a LAW abiding citizen” reads Alfred Mutua’s tweets.
Failed to show Up
The request for his arrest was reached on after it turned out that he had defied three summons to appear before the Committee (PAC)- prompting PAC Chairman Senator Moses Kajwang to issue a 14-day ultimatum to Mutyambai to arrest him.
"If the IG fails to arrest the Governor within four days, we will direct the DPP to launch criminal investigations against the two of them in line with the law as affirmed by the High Court in a similar case against Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya," Kajwang stated.
He added that the Senate would consider freezing allocations to Machakos County until Mutua complies with its summons.
