There was drama on Sunday afternoon after supporters of Garissa Governor Ali Korane chased out National Assembly Majority Leader out of the popular Orahey Market in Garissa town.
Duale had tried to mobilise the traders to oppose an initiative by Korane seeking to relocate the market to a new modern site.
However, the Garisssa Township MP was overruled by most of the traders who said the Governor had adequately involved them in the relocation exercise and were willing to move to reduce traffic congestion in the town.
As Duale continued with his speech in opposition to Korane’s project, the traders became hostile – forcing to him to cut his speech and flee from the market.
His vehicle was escorted out under heavy security from officers attached to the General Service Unit (GSU).
He later took to social media where he insisted that he would oppose the relocation of traders from the historic Orahey Market.
"The market will not be moved. As leaders, we must protect small traders, our mothers and youths”.
"For the last 13 years every effort was made to relocate from their historic market. That will not happen under my leadership," the legislator stated.
Korane and Duale have previously enjoyed close political ties but that relationship is expected to take a dive as the two engage in factional disputes.
