The shopkeeper promised to give them more money when they return
The frightened shopkeeper in the suburbs of Charleroi jokingly asked the gang of six people to "come back later when he has more money".
He told the group, which had an intent to rob him, to come back at the end of the day when business is closing.
The shopkeeper told the BBC that he didn't "give them a thing" but rather promised them about 3,000 euros if they returned.
"It's like it was a comedy. They're being called the worst robbers in Belgium."
An hour before the shop's closing time, one of the robbers was seen at the door -- and was told: "It is not the end of business".
When the robbers came back later in the evening, they found police waiting at the back of the shop ready to arrest them.
