Kin Kariisa Again Calls Out Samson Kasumba on X over Election Debate Comments

The CEO of Next Media Group, Kin Kariisa, has once again put NBS TV news anchor Samson Kasumba in an uncomfortable spotlight on X (formerly Twitter). This happened after the two shared conflicting views about the planned 2026 election debates, attracting public attention and sparking fresh reactions online.

Kasumba Supports the Debates

On November 18, 2025, Samson Kasumba shared a post expressing support for the upcoming election debates. In his message, he encouraged only the interested people to tune in or attend.
He wrote: “We @nbstv are asking only those who want to watch to watch. We also ask those who want to come to come.”

Kasumba’s statement suggested that the debates were optional and aimed at people who were already willing to participate.

Kariisa Responds Immediately

However, this message did not sit well with his boss, Kin Kariisa. Kariisa quickly responded to Kasumba’s post, implying that the anchor’s attitude was too relaxed for something as important as national election debates.

Kariisa replied: “Naye Kasumba banange… wefuge… We need everyone.”

His comment suggested that the debates were not just for those who were already willing to watch. Instead, he emphasized that the media house needs all Ugandans to be part of the discussions, showing that the event is meant to attract the whole country not just a selected audience.

Kariisa’s response came off as a public correction, which many online followers interpreted as another moment of embarrassment for Kasumba.

This is not the first time the two media personalities have clashed in public. Their interactions on X have previously caused debate among netizens, with some people calling out Kasumba for his tone and choice of words.

Back in July 2025, Kasumba became a topic of online discussion after another post drew criticism and another correction directly from Kariisa.

The July Incident: “Displace Me” Comments Backfire
In the earlier incident, Kasumba had shared strong views about young professionals who hope to work at NBS TV or join the media industry. He suggested that anyone who wanted his job would have to outshine him in skill and performance.

He posted: “If you are not good enough to displace me, then you have nothing to tell @KKariisa and @nbstv.”

The comment did not go well with many social media users. Critics accused him of being arrogant and dismissive of young talent. One person even questioned how many young people he had helped to secure employment or opportunities within the industry.

Kasumba tried to defend himself by saying: “I was self-employed for over ten years, and I hated it.”

However, this response did little to calm the backlash. Many people felt that the anchor’s comments were insensitive and failed to acknowledge the real challenges young Ugandans face when seeking employment.

The most recent exchange between Kariisa and Kasumba has once again triggered mixed reactions online. Some users praised Kariisa for correcting the anchor, saying that national debates require maximum participation and should not sound optional. Others questioned why these disagreements keep happening in public instead of being resolved internally.

Regardless of the opinions, the incident has kept both Kariisa and Kasumba trending, showing how influential figures in the media space can spark discussions with just a few posts.

Growing Pattern of Online Tension

These repeated public corrections have led some netizens to believe there is ongoing tension between the two. While neither Kariisa nor Kasumba has spoken about any internal issues, their public exchanges continue to draw attention.

What remains clear is that any time Kasumba shares a strong opinion, especially on professional matters, online users keep a close watch waiting to see whether Kariisa will respond.

The latest incident between Kin Kariisa and Samson Kasumba shows how sensitive public communication can be, especially for well-known media figures. As Uganda moves closer to the 2026 elections, the pressure on media personalities to communicate carefully and responsibly continues to rise.

For now, Kasumba and Kariisa’s exchanges remain a topic of online discussion, with many wondering what the next clash or clarification will look like.
